What Action Research is:
Action Research can be described as an ongoing cyclic process which pursues action (change) and research (understanding) at the same time.
It does this by:
Action Research is an approach to problem solving - No action without inquiry and no inquiry without action - Broad Action Research Approaches: Scientific/Technical, Practical/Deliberative (involving a team), Critical/Emancipatory (transform through actions/interventions) - Action research is iterative - The change intervention, is aimed at improvement and involvement (sustainable improvement) - It is a collaborative, collegial, democratic problem solving process - It is an ongoing, social process of inquiry - The nature and significance of the problem determines what type of change action required _ |
